Lions FC vs Glacis UTD FC

Frankie Hatton  |  7 November 2015

A great atmosphere last night running up to the Glacis vs Lions FC  game.

From being with the team before the game, and listening to Juan Lu run through previous game, pointing out his thoughts and tactics I could tell that the team morale was high.

Jayden Catania, Capt, didn't playing last night I asked him how he felt and he was supportive of the manager and expressed the view that he will keep trying to impress.

Local players last night were Rafa Bado, Sykes (scored), Nathan, Jayce

(assist on goal for Lata), Ping (Kailan Perez), locals that came on as subs, Ashley, Evan (assist on goal for Lata). Lata was outstanding, Ping, Jayce, Nathan were excellent and the team showed excellent progress and I can see that they are growing and getting to know how to support each other on the field.

Sergio Gines notched a hat-trick as Lions secured a 5-0 victory over Glacis in the Premier Division.

Lions started the brightest of the two teams with Sykes Garro & Rafa Bado dominating the midfield but they were unable to break down a well-organised Glacis defence. Lions continued to pressure and broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, young full-back Jayce Olivero skipped past three defenders and squared the ball to Sergio Gines, the striker took a touch and slotted his shot into the bottom corner.

Shortly after they had a glorious chance to double their lead, Jayce Olivero’s low cross from Raul Segura, the winger’s shot was saved by Jose Antonio Rico Perez, the rebound fell to Sykes Garro whose shot hit the crossbar. The first half ended and Lions went into the break with a slender 1-0 lead.

The second half started with Lions in possession and made it 2-0 three minutes in, captain Ismael Fernandez Cuesta latched onto a through ball and smashed his shot into the top corner, the Glacis keeper stayed rooted to his spot. Less than fifteen minutes later Lions made it 3-0, Sergio Gines beat the offside trap and coolly slotted his shot past an onrushing Rico Perez.

Lions made it 4-0 ten minutes later, Sykes Garro receives the ball from outside the area, takes a touch and curls his shot past Rico Perez with a tidy finish. With less than fifteen minutes of the game remaining Lions made it 5-0, substitute David Narvaez’s free-kick hit the woodwork, the rebound fell to Sergio Gines who guided his shot past Rico Perez to complete his hat-trick.

Referee Andrew Parody blew for full-time and Lions walked away with the three points which sees them move to third in the league while Glacis remain rooted to the bottom.
